We suggest and offer the following vaccinations for cats.
FRCPC for cats
Feline (Rhinotracheitis/ Calicivirus/ Panleukopenia/ Chlamydia) – is vaccine for upper respiratory and gastrointestinal infections of cats. A series of three FVRCPC injections (three weeks apart) is given to kittens. The vaccine series is usually started at six to eight weeks of age. If a cat is 12 weeks or older and has not been previously vaccinated, then a minimum of two vaccines is required given 3 weeks apart. Annual FRCPC vaccines are recommended at ARAH for the remainder of the cat's life.
Rabies for cats
Rabies vaccine can be given as early as 12 weeks age. First vaccine is effective for only one year. Next rabies vaccination is valid for three years. It is important to vaccinate your cat against rabies even they strictly indoor cats. Bats are the animal most often found to be rabid in Michigan. The possibility of having your cat catching the bat that coming to your house is always open.
(Feline Leukemia) – Advised for outside cats or multi cat house. FeLV testing is recommended prior to vaccinating. We strongly recommend FeLV tests for all new kittens that will be introduced to a new house. We recommend at least 2 sets of FeLV given 3 weeks apart. Annual FeLV vaccines are recommended at ARAH for the remainder of the cat's life.
